The San Diego Coalition to Stop the Genocide in Sudan came into existence on August 25, 2004 which was designated by the Save Darfur Coalition as the SUDAN: DAY OF CONSCIENCE.

On that day, while groups throughout North America held prayer vigils, informational meetings, interfaith prayer services, panel discussions …and while individuals engaged in a one day hunger strike in solidarity with the people of western Sudan, San Diegans began planning a vigorous course of action to address the horrific situation in the Darfur region of Sudan ....and to address the Sudanese refugee crisis in Chad.

The San Diego Coalition to Stop the Genocide in Sudan unites organizations and individuals with a shared commitment to stop the genocide in the Darfur region of Sudan ....and channel humanitarian assistance to the Sudanese refugees in Chad and the internally displaced Darfuri people who remain in Sudan.

Organizational members of the Coalition include:
International Rescue Committee, San Diego Chapter
Alliance for African Assistance
Forced Migration Laboratory of the Center for Comparative Immigration Studies at UCSD
American Jewish Committee, San Diego Chapter
St. Luke's Episcopal Church
Sudanese Community Association
South Sudanese Community Center
Sudanese Christian Youth Organization

Some of our members work for, or are involved with national organizations which are not organizational members of the coalition. Consequently those people do not represent those organizations but are involved in the Coalition as individual members.

Some members of the Coalition do not work for, and are not affiliated with other humanitarian organizations or faith-based groups.

For some of our members, their faiths and religious affiliations are central elements in their lives. Others of us have no religious affiliations.

Refugees from 6 African countries are involved with the Coalition.
